Vehicle Asbestos Testing

Certification for export to Australia.

Australia prohibits asbestos in any imported product, and there is no exemption for the age of a vehicle. We sample the friction components, have them analysed, and give you the certificate pack your customs broker needs before the vessel sails.

Property: methamphetamine

Screening for home buyers, landlords and property managers across Auckland, benchmarked to the threshold that actually applies. Rentals have been measured against 15 µg/100cm² since 16 April 2026; sale and purchase, owner-occupied homes, commercial buildings and insurance matters are still assessed against the NZS 8510:2017 guideline of 1.5 µg/100cm². Applying the wrong one is expensive in both directions.

Property: asbestos

Identification and bulk sampling of suspect materials in buildings (cladding, textured ceilings, vinyl, soffits, roofing) for owners, buyers and anyone about to renovate or demolish. Sampling is arranged per property and quoted before we attend; every sample is analysed at an IANZ-accredited laboratory.

Vehicles: asbestos for export

Australia bans asbestos in any imported product, with no exemption for the age of a vehicle. We sample the clutch and brake friction material, have it analysed, and issue the certificate pack a customs broker needs before the car ships. Priced on the page, per vehicle, for dealers and private importers alike.

Where the accreditation sits

We take the samples. An IANZ-accredited laboratory analyses them. That separation is the point. A defensible result comes from an accredited laboratory using validated methods, not from a test kit and an opinion. Every report tells you exactly what was sampled, where, and what came back.

Questions, answered

Are you accredited?

No, and you should be wary of any sampling company that says it is. Accreditation applies to laboratories, not to the person taking the sample. Every sample we collect is analysed at an IANZ-accredited laboratory, which is where the accreditation that matters actually sits.

What does Exposure Testing NZ actually do?

We take samples and we report what comes back. Three disciplines: methamphetamine screening for property, asbestos identification in buildings, and asbestos testing on vehicles being exported to Australia. We do not clean, remediate or remove, which is what makes an independent result worth having.

Why does a car need an asbestos test?

Australia has a total prohibition on importing asbestos in any form, and unlike most import rules there is no exemption for age, for classic status or for a personal import. Asbestos was routine in clutch and brake friction material well into the 1990s. Without evidence, the vehicle is held at the Australian port while storage accrues daily.

How long do results take?

Standard turnaround is 2–3 business days from when samples reach the laboratory for vehicle testing, and 3–5 working days for property meth screening. If you are against a deadline (a settlement date, a tenancy start, a vessel sailing), call us and we will tell you what is genuinely possible rather than promising a date we cannot hold.

Do you cover the whole of Auckland?

Yes. Auckland Central, North Shore, Waitākere, Manukau, Rodney, Papakura, Franklin and the Hibiscus Coast, with no travel surcharge inside the region. For vehicle testing we attend yards across Auckland, and travel beyond the metro area is charged per kilometre.

Do you also do the removal or the cleaning?

No, deliberately. A company that both tests and remediates has an obvious incentive to find something, and an obvious incentive to declare its own work successful. Staying out of remediation is what makes a clearance result mean anything.
